Definition of flatline

intransitive verb

1a :to register on an electronic monitor as having no brain waves or heartbeat

:die

2a :to be in a state of no progress or advancement; to come to an end.

  I was pondering on this word the other day as I sat in the car waiting for my son’s bus.  My thoughts were mainly in regards to myself…my lack of passion to do certain things that I used to find most enjoyable; things that I still take an interest in, but have no enthusiasm, no gumption, no will, nor fortitude to carry out to completion.

I’m referring especially to my Christian life.  I used to be a vibrant follower of Christ, thinking only of Him and His sacrifice for me on the Cross.  It was my driving force… it caused me to do things I thought were impossible; to go to dangerous places without fear, to put on the whole armor of God.

I find that these days, my helmet of Salvation is still in place, and I do wear the belt of Truth, although I rarely share it; but my breastplate of Righteousness is usually on the floor along with my shield of Faith, and my shoes of Peace that spread the Gospel of Christ, are lost in the closet.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      But the Bible tells us in:

Ephesians 6:11-18King James Version (KJV)

11 Put on the whole armor of God  that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

I must admit that unfortunately, I don’t do that most days.  Instead of running the race that Jesus has laid before me, I’m sprawled out on a gurney somewhere, needing CPR (Christ’s Perfect Revival) in my soul….

My Christian life My Christian life has almost flatlined!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        I need healing from The Great Physician!  I need to lie on the operating table, and allow Him to purge my soul from the disease of sin in my life!  Then…I must put on the whole armor of God, on a daily basis!   Only then will my zeal for Jesus return!  Only then will my heart beat again!
