Addictions… we all have them.  They disguise themselves as good habits like exercise, money makers, clout chasers, and for some just plain bad habits.  These are just a few:  Alcohol, nicotine, bad thoughts, low self-esteem.

Having lived with these types of addictions, “emotional and physical” and having battled them throughout my life, I’ve been thinking lately can we ever really win?   And so, because I’ve been continually fighting a losing battle against the flesh, which I’m fighting in my own strength, I was going nowhere very fast and sometimes very slow.  Yes, I know we win only by the blood of Jesus, true victory, that is.  So, lately, my prayers have been Lord, I need YOU to be my “addiction”.  I bring my addictions, thoughts, and attitudes to Him in prayer and ask him to check my heart and motives.  I know I’m always going to have to fight this fight, and I will stumble, I will fall, but he said he’d be right there with me all the way.

Here is the way I’m building my new addiction, I’m praying throughout the day, I’m confessing, “I am the righteousness of GOD through faith in Jesus Christ”.  I’m making a special place in my closet an alter with beautiful lights and music, setting reminders/alarms on my phone to remind me to stop for a moment and remember that verse, Jude 1:24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy.

The bible says God is a jealous God.  I know that feeling all too well, but don’t we all? We’ve all had our share of that apple.  So, if He’s jealous and we know the feeling of being jealous, why aren’t we spending time with him?

Let’s make this our new habit-forming addiction, prayer, and an intimate relationship with the Father.   I’ve really committed to doing this and so far, it’s been amazing!  Getting to know Him has changed my desires, my outlook, my peace.  Why couldn’t we have understood this sooner rather than later?  What a Father, a gentleman, a lover of my soul with so much provision and peace to offer.  Try it, it’s an addiction you won’t regret.
