IS YOUR LIGHT STILL ON???

By Anita Mondragon

I know this question in regards to my testimony and walk with God should be asked by me on a daily basis, but it seems I usually wait until some dire circumstance occurs in my life before I even think about such things.  Am I alone in this??  I don’t think so.

You see, we all tend to forget the important stuff-the stuff regarding God because when things are going well, we think we have the world by the tail…and we’re good.  We believe-unconsciously that we don’t need God, or His help…

I’m remembering a Christmas party we went to a couple of years ago.  Most folks there practice religion/tradition, but they don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus.  When my husband and I attend these functions, we stick out like a sore thumb!  These folks are kind to us…but there is a feeling of awkwardness in the air…it’s called conviction.  We don’t try to make them feel uncomfortable, but the Spirit of Christ in us is at enmity with the spirit in them.

As I sat in the midst of the party, I felt out of place…uneasy.  I don’t have much in common with anyone there.  But then, Jesus spoke to my heart and reminded me that this was my calling…to be a light in the darkness.  To show kindness and compassion.  To forget my own comforts and be mindful of others.  I KNOW  am to be these things, but I feel they usually don’t make an impact.

I was very surprised when they went looking for my husband to say the prayer before we ate!  Then, one of them thanked me for a kindness I’d shown and said, “God bless you for doing that!”

The next morning, my husband and I were talking in bed about the party.  I told my husband, “It’s good to know our Light is still on!”

Do you ever wonder if your Light has dwindled or completely gone out?  I often do!  That’s why we all need to ask the Holy Spirit to burn bright in us as we walk through this dark world!  We must remember that people are watching us.  They want to know if we REALLY believe what we say about Jesus.  Are we really walking the walk?  Or are we just talking the talk?  Remember…YOU MAY BE THE ONLY BIBLE SOMEONE EVER READS!

Ask yourself, on a daily basis….  ‘IS MY LIGHT STILL ON???’
