Remember that old song by the Rolling Stones?  –  “I can’t get no satisfaction.”  Well, that has been a picture of the world for quite some time now, and it’s even worse in these present days!  Now that we’re locked up in our homes due to the virus, we are finding ourselves miserable.  Things we did before when we felt unsatisfied, we can no longer do.  Going out to eat when we want to, shopping, going to the mountains, visiting parks, going on vacation…the list goes on.  Truth is, these outings were/are nothing but bandages!  They do not ‘heal’ our wanton condition, they merely cover it up for a short time.  It’s like the alcoholic…the next drink is not the cure. 

 

Even in the ‘normal’ times before the virus, I’ve heard this lack of satisfaction verbalized over and over again.  My own preteen voices his dissatisfaction from time to time when he isn’t allowed to do some things.  He says, “I can’t wait until I’m old enough to do the things I want to do!”   I hear people wishing for a better job, a better home, a newer car, more money…  Then I hear older people wishing to be young once again.  Even folks that seem to have everything this life could offer are unsatisfied!  We are never happy…it’s never enough.

 

Why is this?  Because there is nothing on this earth that can satisfy us.  Our deepest longing is to see God.  It’s been hard-wired into our DNA.  God put it there.  There is a void in our hearts and lives that can only be filled by the presence of Jesus!  

I see many postings on Facebook of people longing for this virus to end so that things can get back to normal.  But what we all need is not normality…it is something supernatural we are needing!  We need the presence of God to fill our hearts and minds, and we will find ourselves content with whatever is happening.  You will find satisfaction!  HE…JESUS brings joy.  HE brings contentment.  HE brings peace!  If you don’t believe me, just call on the name of Jesus with an open heart.  Just try HIM…just once, and you will find a peace you’ve never known before!  I know…I tried it.  It works!
