ABRAHAM: THE EXAMPLE OF A MAN JUSTIFIED BY FAITH ALONE

1.) THE SOURCE OF ABRAHAM’S FAITH (ROM. 4:17)        

a.) It was God Himself (Mk. 11:22; Heb. 11:6)
b.) It was God who quickened the dead (Jn. 5:24-25, 6:40; Acts 24:15; 1 Cor. 15:22; 2 Cor. 4:14; 1 Thess. 4:16)
c.) It was God who created (Mt. 19:26; Lk. 1:37; Job 42:2)

2.) THE STRENGTH OF ABRAHAM’S FAITH (ROM. 4:18-22)

a.) His Faith was in what God had said (Rom. 4:18)

1.) He was not weak in faith (Rom. 4:19) (Isa. 43:10; Deut. 6:5, 10:12-13)
2.) He was strong in faith (Rom. 4:20)
3.) He was fully convinced (Rom. 4:21) (Lk. 3:8; Acts 27:25; Deut. 7:9; Ps. 37:5; Prov. 3:5; Isa. 26:3; Jer. 17:7)

b.) His faith was credited as righteousness (Rom. 4:22) (Gen. 15:6; Rom. 5:1; 1 Cor. 6:11; Phil. 3:9)

3.) THE RECORDING OF ABRAHAM’S FAITH (ROM. 4:23-25)

a.) That men might read the account (Jn. 20:31; 1 Jn. 1:1-3)
b.) That men might be counted righteous – by believing

1.) That God raised Jesus
2.) That Jesus died for our sins and was raised again for our justification (Acts 2:23-24, 10:39-41, 13:30; Rom. 1:4; Eph. 1:20-21)
