THE WHITE HORSE

By Anita Mondragon

6 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, “Come and see.”

And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.  Revelation 6:1-2

When I was fourteen years old, my dad pastored a church on the West side of Denver.  Every Summer, we had Vacation Bible School (VBS).  One year, all the lessons during that week, were about Jesus coming back on a white horse, leading the armies of Heaven.

I remember seeing four little boys in attendance, all about six years of age.  They had never been to VBS before, and were loving every minute of it!  One of the boys in particular, was especially enthralled with the white horse that Jesus is going to ride one day.  He kept telling everyone he’d meet, “I want to go Heaven and ride a white horse with Jesus when He goes into battle!”  One day, while at VBS, he knelt down on his knees, and asked Jesus to save him so that he could ride in the battle on that Great Day.

About two weeks later, he and the other three boys were playing in a field nearby the Projects where they all lived.   There was an old abandoned car in the field where they played.  They all piled into the rusty old car, and began to play; pushing peddles, changing gears, steering like they were driving, pushing buttons, etc.  One of them pushed the cigarette lighter in.  The battery must have had just enough juice left in it to make it work.  It fell to the floor, igniting the old rags and papers within.  They were trapped!

A passer-by recounted what she had seen to the Police.  She said she could see them all pressed up against the windows, trying to get out.  Their skin was melting like wax, before her eyes…but she could do nothing to help them for the car was engulfed in flames.

My dad held the funeral for the boys.  The place was filled to capacity and beyond.  A large crowd outside, encircled the building.  Dad held an alter call after the service.  Countless numbers of people in attendance went up to receive Jesus as their personal Savior.

The little boy got his wish to be with Jesus.  And, the re-telling of his intense desire to ride a big white horse with his Savior, brought many souls to the Lord that day, and in the weeks to come.

I wonder… how many of us long to be on the Front Lines?  Oh, maybe we wouldn’t mind being there on that Great Day… but what about here and now?  Or, are most of us content to hide behind our shield of Faith, sit on our Blessed Assurance, and watch as the world goes to Hell?

We get caught up in the rat- race and grind of everyday life, and sadly forget that Hell, is like that burning car, full of flames and torment.  But Hell will never burn out, and the lost souls of men in that place will never die.  They will scream in torment forever.

We have the truth…WE (saved, born-again Believers) could save them from all that!

I write this as a reminder to us all…if you KNOW Jesus…SHARE HIM with someone today!  Some folks you meet today, may not have a tomorrow in their future.  TODAY, may be their last chance!

May the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and His Salvation, be our intense desire and purpose!
