WELLS OF PURPOSE

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”  John 4:7-10 NIV

Last night, I was reading something written by someone very close to me.  I’m going to share two lines with you…and YES!  I did ask for permission! LOL!

The words of the whole song were very meaningful, and well thought out; but the following two lines, struck at my heart!  They are as follows:

“Searching for purpose…

Just scratching the surface…”

When I read those words, it made me want to cry!  It reminded me of myself when I was this person’s age.  I was going from day to day…unsure of WHO I was…or WHAT I was here for.  I think the word: Aimless, would best describe me at that time in my life.

I need to tell this person, and all of you, what I have come to know.

If you’ll look back over your life, even if you are still young, you will find one or two things that, have in the past, and still to this day, give you great joy.  You’re good at it…and love doing it; in fact, you will find in retrospect, that it is the thing you gravitate to every time you have a spare moment!  It’s relaxing, and fulfilling; it’s what you think about most of the time.  That is because GOD Himself, has placed this unique thing in you…a drive, that can’t be squelched…or satisfied…a thing YOU were BORN to do!

I love to write.  I tell everyone that I began writing back in 2000, but after looking back over my life, I find I have been writing for quite some time.  I have recently found notebooks dating back to grade school, middle school, high school…and up to the present.  The things I wrote at the beginning, were of course kid-like.  The things in middle school, and high school were dark and morbid as I searched to find myself.  Now…it’s like the light has finally come on.  I KNOW my purpose!

Look back…what do you see?  Is it art, writing, music, caring for others, teaching, preaching, acting, evangelizing, prophesying, listening, healing, visiting shut-ins, prison ministry, helping the homeless, foster care…?  The list could go on and on…but only you and God can figure it out.

Ask HIM…He wants to show you what He created you for.  And…DO NOT LISTEN to those who tell you, “You’re not qualified!” or…say, “You can’t do that!  It’s impossible!”  YOU have an audience of ONE to please, and that is God Almighty!

If we ask God to help us achieve our purpose to the full…we won’t have to “scratch the surface…” HE will dig a bottomless well for us to draw from!

Forget scratching the surface…DRAW FROM THE WELL!  Live out your purpose!
