ACT WITH JUSTICE.  LOVE MERCY.  BE HUMBLE.

“AND WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU?  TO ACT JUSTLY AND TO LOVE MERCY AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD.”  -MICAH 6:8

Someone may say…”So that’s all God requires of me once I’ve made Him my Savior?”

YEP!  That’s it.  But let me tell you something that most of us have already come to know…It ain’t that easy!  It’s hard to act justly when you know all the facts sometimes. Especially when you and your loved ones have been affected by those facts!  You’d rather let ’em have it with both barrels!

Then God said, we’re supposed to LOVE mercy. Most of the time, I’m a very merciful person.  I try to reason within myself as to ‘why’ people do what they do.  But some things irk me to the core, and I find myself completely depleted of mercy.  It’s the last thing on my mind!

The final requirement is to walk humbly with God.  That means we aren’t supposed to think our sins are less deserving of God’s wrath than that of a murderer, rapist, drug dealer, or any of the other sins we seem to deem to be the worst.  You can murder someone’s character with your words of gossip.  Sin is sin in God’s eyes.  We need to remember that and not look down on others thinking that we’re so much better than they are.

Now, I need you to know that I’m preaching to myself here as well!  You see, I just received word that an adversary from my past, recently died.  Many things went through my mind all at once.  This person caused so much pain in my life, and the life of others.  He brought fear, anger, rage, yes…and even murderous thoughts to my dreams.  I have lived in fear of his return for the last 40 some years.  So at hearing the news of his passing, I must admit I felt much relief.  I thought, finally Lord…you’ve delivered justice.  But God reminded me that He had also extended mercy to this individual for over forty years, giving him a chance to repent and change his ways.  Did he?  I have no idea.  I certainly hope so, for his sake.

We must remember…we all answer for ourselves.   need to act justly.  must love mercy.  have to walk humbly with my God.
