HIGH AND LOW

By Anita Mondragon

I found myself deep in prayer a couple of nights ago.  Although I tried my hardest, sleep would not find me.

I was praying for a loved one.  I explained to God, (as if He needed me to) that I wanted this person to be brought back.  I, like Moses, entreated God to do whatever was necessary-but to please remember Mercy.  I said, “I don’t know where he is right now…but YOU do!”  I asked God to speak to him-to get through to him, even if he was drunk and higher than a kite.  Then I added, or if he’s at his lowest…deep in depression…in utter despair!
It was then that God called into my remembrance a testimony I’d heard at church years before.  It was given by a wife that had continually prayed for the salvation of her drunken husband.  She prayed for years, but seemingly to no avail.  One night, she was in church and her husband burst through the doors and ran to the altar.  He was drunk as usual, but God had gotten his attention.  As he knelt there at the altar, he sobbed, “I’m done.  I can’t run anymore!  I give up!”  He finally surrendered to Jesus!

When he ran through those doors, he was ‘high’, but at his lowest.  ‘High’ from alcohol, but at his lowest and in deep despair for his sin.  He was finally convinced that he needed Jesus!

The Psalmist David said in Psalm 139:1-8

1You have looked deep

into my heart, LORD,

and you know all about me.

2You know when I am resting

or when I am working,

and from heaven

you discover my thoughts.

3You notice everything I do

and everywhere I go.

4Before I even speak a word,

you know what I will say,

5and with your powerful arm

you protect me

from every side.

6I can’t understand all of this!

Such wonderful knowledge

is far above me.

7Where could I go to escape

from your Spirit

or from your sight?

8If I were to climb up

to the highest heavens,

you would be there.

If I were to dig down

to the world of the dead

you would also be there.

Jesus is searching for you!  He stands with arms opened wide, waiting for you to run to Him.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??
