For all of you that know me well, and have visited my home…you know about my “refrigerator notes”.

My refrigerator is full of words, quotes, phrases, poems, verses, and the like, that have made an impact on my thinking.  I keep them in plain sight, to remind me…lest I forget.  Remember the movie, “War Room”?  The prayer warrior had sticky notes pasted all over the walls of her prayer closet.  My refrigerator is kind of like her “war room”.

This morning, as I went to prepare myself some breakfast, my eyes fell upon the following reminder.  I share it now with you….

Matthew 5:13-16 (MSG)

13  “Let me tell you why you are here.  You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth.  If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste Godliness?  You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.

14-16  “Here’s another way to put it:  You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.  God is not a secret to be kept.  We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill.  If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you?  I’m putting you on a light stand.  Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—SHINE!  ….

These verses really hit home with me.  If we profess to be Christians, we need to conduct our lives in a Christ-like manner!  If you have openly declared your Christianity…then those around you are looking to see if you just “talk the talk”…or if you really do “walk the walk.”

I think of someone else who was publicly placed atop a hill in the city of Jerusalem, over 2,000 years ago.  HE WAS, and still is, THE LIGHT BEARER!

We, as Christians must follow His example.  He was humble and kind, and lived a life of sacrifice to others.  His ultimate sacrifice…His death on the Cross.  He died to set men free of sin!  His light has never ceased to shine; but we are now the light bearers until He returns to take us home!

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  -Matthew 5:16
